Talvivaara Mining Company aims to become an internationally significant base metals producer. The company focuses primarily on the production of nickel and zinc using bioheapleaching technology.

With bioheapleaching, metals can be extracted even from low grade ore profitably, in an environmentally friendly process. Talvivaara's deposits comprise one of the largest known sulphide nickel resources in Europe. The ore is sufficient for at least 24 years. Production started on the 1^st of October, 2008. The company has made a 10-year contract with Norilsk Nickel on all its nickel and cobalt production.

Challenges

The challenge was to ensure continuity after the extremely successful IPO communications: to keep decision-makers, investors and the public up-to-date on how the Talvivaara mine project progresses and impacts the society and surrounding community. The goal was to build up Talvivaara's image as a responsible corporate citizen and employer as well as a good investment.

Communications Solutions

Talvivaara was listed on the Main List of the London Stock Exchange on the 1^st of June 2007. The extent of the IPO and the whole mine project as well as its social and economic importance for the region guaranteed extensive and prominent visibility to the IPO in business media, newspapers and TV.
